We have been participating in the Confederation of Almaty Schools and Headteachers (COASH) since 2015 and were the founding members of the Central Asian Federation of Activities, Athletics and Art (CAFA). Our students have opportunities to compete in soccer, volleyball, badminton, cross country and basketball with other international schools.
Our students also participate in the following electives: orchestra, speech, drama, yearbook, TESOL, choir, art, technology/engineering, and/or teacher/administrative aide.
At Tien Shan, there are four different house teams: Abai , Zhambul , Auezov , and Sefulin. Each new family who enters Tien Shan will be assigned to one of these house teams. Students earn house points from their teachers through academic achievements and outstanding actions. These house points will be added to the total amount of house points each team has.
House points can also be earned during an annual event called Sports Day. Sports day is an event when all the students with their family wear their house team colors and compete with each other in running and other fun competitions. The winner of sports day will receive the most amount of house points. The team with the most amount of house points at the end of the year has their name enscribed on the House Team Plaque.
Every year, Tien Shan holds two major concerts by the orchestra and the choir. The Christmas concert is held near the Christmas break, and the Spring concert is held near the summer break. Students are encouraged to attend Almaty Honors Music Festival in Almaty and ACSI Honors Choir and Strings conference in Europe.
Tien Shan has three main different sports seasons: Soccer, basketball, and volleyball, and in each season, Tien Shan players will compete against other schools in Almaty and also with international schools in Central Asia. Each season will consist of at least four teams: varsity girls, varsity boys, and junior varsity girls and junior varsity boys. There are also U13 and U9 teams that also compete against other schools in Almaty.
